Concealers are one of those things that are very hard to get “just right” for your individual skin type and personal preferences. I, for one, need liquid-y enough texture with some industrial strength coverage, something that is easy to blend, stays put all day long and does not look like i am wearing an extra layer to hide those ghastly dark circles/old acne scars. I’m a pretty relentless beauty junkie huh?

There are over 25 concealers sitting in my dresser right at this moment. Some I never touch, some I like using once in a while, some I really like and some that I love so much i have backups.

So I have for you here my top 5 picks (in no particular order).

1) KAT VON D Lock-It Concealer Shade Light 18

This falls in the category of me loving it so much that I actually do have a back up. It really ticks all the boxes. The formula is so creamy and moisturising, i can use it under my eyes without having to moisturize/prep the area with anything special. The coverage is absolutely amazing and one layer covers my pretty obvious acne scars. It does not take a lot to blend and once it is blended, it somehow becomes one with the skin and you really can’t detect it. I generally use a fluffy brush to blend it in (something like the Real Techniques Setting Brush). Also this shade is a perfect match for me so it’s just one of those holy grail products i will never ever be without. It does have a bit of a dewy finish so I always remember to set it with a light dusting of powder.

2) Cle De Peau Stick Concealer SPF 25

Stick concealers are traditionally too thick and cakey to work with. But this is a serious exception and hands down one of the best albeit most expensive concealers on the market. I tried it because it has such a cult following and to be honest i wasn’t expecting to like it. But the stick format makes it THE best travel product to carry around in your bag. I like to blend it with my fingertips – just a few taps is all it takes. It does have a matte finish but i have oily-combination skin so this never looks cakey and i don’t need to even set it with powder. The coverage is so good that I sometimes use it on it’s own on my bare skin and add a bit of bronzer and I am good to go on the skin department. The shade range is not large – I have the shade BEIGE and it is not a perfect match which is my only issue with the product.

3) Maybelline FIT ME Concealer Shade 20

This is a good dupe for the Kat Von D concealer as it mimics the same texture and ease of blending. The coverage is not as superb as Kat Von D but it’s really REALLY good and if you add on a second layer, it’s as good as it’s snobbier counterpart. The doe foot applicator in fact makes it even easier to apply so I reach out for this very often. Shade 20 a decent match for my skin and it sets neither dewy nor matte – just skin-like. One of the best drugstore concealers in my opinion.

4) Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher Concealer Shade 2

This is one I particularly love for under the eyes because it refuses to crease – I know .. MAZEL TOV! ¬†And i am not a 17 year old with perfectly smooth skin – so when i say something does not crease – it’s a BIG deal! In fact i just finished this tube and been kicking myself for not buying a second tube whilst I was in London last month. I do also end up using it over old acne scars (cos ain’t nobody got time for 2 different concealers) and it works fine for that too but definitely needs to be set in place with powder to make it last on my face.

5) Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place High Cover Concealer SPF 35

This one is a more recent find and something that Anna from The Anna Edit made me try (i do not know her personally… just that I binge watch/read her content and you should too). It’s really not a product that gets enough love on the internet but it’s friggin’ amazing. For me, it’s the Cle De Peau stick concealer merged with the famed Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage to create a perfectly beautiful baby. I generally keep it in my everyday work bag and use my fingers to tap in and blend as I hastily put on my makeup in the taxi ride to work on most mornings. I do make sure i have moisturised my skin before I use it as due to it’s thick texture, it can tend to be a bit cakey if I use it on completely dry skin.

Honorary mention to NARS radiant creamy concealer too – really love the formula on that but i am in between 2 shades – “Custard” and “Vanilla” and that’s just a bit of a faff you see.

So that’s it – all my fav concealers in one place. Any concealers that you’d recommend I try next??
