I am no pro with makeup. I don’t have the most stable hand with eye liner, often mess up my face blending in blush with the finger i just blended my black kohl eyeliner with etc. etc…. you get the point. I know it is all about practice but I am certainly not there yet. Plus I usually don’t have time to pick up 4 different brushes to even out my skin tone (not tht i am super busy… i just sleep too much). So i like things that are hard to go wrong with. Foundation is something you can easily go wrong with (wrong shade, wrong blending, wrong consistency for your skin type etc etc). But did i find an answer? Oh yes (thanks to pixiwoo that i tried it)
It’s MAC face & body foundation.
It’s sheer enough to be categorized as a tinted moisturizer in my opinion. But you can build it up for some low-medium coverage without looking like you have a mask on. This is probably my most used face product cos I generally aim to sport the barely there makeup. And it’s perfect for that.
YOu can blend it in with your fingers like you’re smoothing on some serum. If you don’t like to use your fingers then the Real Techniques buffing brush or something similar is a very good choice. A flat foundation brush can be streaky as the product is quite runny. The consistency of this foundation is super watery but somehow blended in, it evens out your skin tone. My 4-5 acne scars are not TOTALLY covered but just less visible. And believe me, i am too lazy to use concealer unless I was going to attend my sister’s wedding. In my opinion, if you are going for the no makeup makeup look, then leave some scars slightly visible – perfectly imperfect…. Am i making sense?
And the finish of this product? It’s to die for! It’s dewy in a good way and I love it. For my combination oily skin, I am certainly better off putting some powder (usually make up forever HD or MAC careblends Light Plus) on my T-zone. For dry skin, I would imagine this to be super perfect with no powder required. It lasts about 6 hours definitely, without primer. (PS: the perfect partner with this is a very subtle cream blush for natural-looking glowy skin)
I use N1 for my NC20 skin tone. I find N1 to be pretty neutral and C1 a bit yellow for me (even though i am closer to nc20 than to nw20). One of the main reasons why i think you can’t go wrong with it is that the shade is sheer enough for your natural coloring to be visible and hence a shade here or there won’t make much of a difference. I use N1 but N2 is OK and C1 is acceptable too. If I use N3, i could pull off a slight tan if i bring it down to my neck and not look like I over did the spray tan on my face like Ross in FRIENDS (season 10 episode 3). It comes in a total of 13 shades which is not that extensive but covers NC/NW15 to NC/NW40 i imagine.
In terms of price, it’s not as expensive as the high end ones generally are cos u get 120ml for about S$54. COmpare this to S$18-23 for any drugstore tinted moisturizer or foundation for 30ml. DEFINITELY worth it!
So if you are new to makeup and want something safe – try it!. Orrr if you generally dont use makeup but need something for occasions where u want to look like yourself but slightly better (like job interviews, new job, weddings etc) – try it!
